We are proud to share that two of our students will represent Astrea Academy Woodfields at Shakespeare’s Globe in London this July, collecting a special Poetry by Heart award on behalf of our school. This honour recognises our dedication over the past two years to ensuring every student learns poems by heart — with all of our pupils able to recite Invictus by William Ernest Henley and If by Rudyard Kipling daily.

This year, around 30 of our students entered the competition individually, alongside two group ensemble performances of both modern and classic works, including If and Funeral Blues by W. H. Auden.

We are also delighted that our Principal, David Scales, will perform at the grand finale after being named a finalist for his recital of Robert Frost’s The Road Not Taken.

Last summer, our drama club reached the freestyle poetry finals, performing a powerful physical ensemble of Invictus, one of only 18 acts chosen from over 3,000 entries.
